Creating Beautiful Outdoor Spaces Across the Pee Dee Region
Where Design Meets Quality Installation
From initial concept to final installation, Modern Day Landscaping handles every aspect of your landscape project with precision and care. We understand the unique conditions of the Florence area, from the sandy loam soils common throughout the Pee Dee region to the hot, humid summers that demand drought-tolerant plantings. Our designs account for South Carolina’s climate zones and seasonal patterns, ensuring your landscape thrives year-round. Planning a project? Review the landscape planning and drainage guidance to understand site conditions, water movement, plants, sod, privacy, lighting, and fire features before installation.
Whether you’re looking to enhance your property’s curb appeal, create functional outdoor living areas, or solve drainage issues, our comprehensive landscape design and installation services cover it all. We work with homeowners and commercial property owners throughout Florence, Hartsville, and Darlington to create outdoor spaces that are both beautiful and sustainable.
Plant Installations
Transform your property with expertly selected and installed plants that thrive in the Pee Dee region’s climate. Our plant installation services include careful site analysis, soil preparation, and selection of species that complement your home’s architecture while withstanding South Carolina’s summer heat and occasional winter freezes. We source quality shrubs, perennials, ornamental grasses, and specimen plants from trusted nurseries, ensuring healthy root systems and proper acclimation. Each installation includes proper spacing for mature growth, appropriate soil amendments for the sandy soils common in Darlington County, and initial care instructions to help your new plantings establish strong roots.
Drainage & Grading
Poor drainage can damage your foundation, create standing water, and kill established plantings. Our drainage and grading services address these issues with proven solutions tailored to your property’s topography and soil conditions. We evaluate water flow patterns, identify problem areas, and implement grading solutions that direct water away from structures and vulnerable landscape areas. This includes reshaping slopes, creating swales, installing catch basins, and establishing proper grades that prevent erosion while maintaining an attractive landscape. Proper grading is essential in Florence’s clay-heavy subsoils where water can pool quickly during our frequent afternoon thunderstorms.
French Drains
When surface grading isn’t enough, French drains provide an effective underground solution for persistent water problems. We install professionally engineered French drain systems that intercept and redirect subsurface water away from foundations, basements, and landscaped areas. Our installations include proper trenching, quality perforated pipe, clean gravel backfill, and filter fabric to prevent soil intrusion. French drains are particularly effective in Florence area properties where the water table sits high and clay soils create slow percolation rates. We custom design each system based on your property’s specific drainage challenges and discharge requirements.
Landscape Lighting
Extend the beauty and usability of your outdoor space into the evening hours with professionally designed landscape lighting. Our lighting installations highlight architectural features, illuminate walkways for safety, and create dramatic effects on specimen trees and plantings. We use energy-efficient LED fixtures with quality transformers and proper burial-depth wiring that meets electrical codes. Strategic lighting placement enhances security while creating ambiance for outdoor entertaining. From subtle path lights along walkways to dramatic uplighting on heritage live oaks, we design systems that are both functional and beautiful.
Natural Privacy Fences
Create privacy and define your outdoor spaces with living screens that offer beauty beyond traditional fencing. We install natural privacy solutions using evergreen shrubs, ornamental grasses, and fast-growing hedge plants suited to South Carolina’s climate. Popular choices include Leyland cypress for quick screening, Cryptomeria for year-round texture, and native hollies that provide privacy while supporting local wildlife. Natural fences soften property lines, reduce noise, and create microclimates within your landscape. We space plantings for optimal coverage at maturity and can combine living screens with traditional hardscaping for immediate privacy.
Sod Installations
Get an instant lawn with professional sod installation that transforms bare ground into lush turf in just one day. We install premium warm-season grasses suited to Florence’s climate, including Bermuda for full-sun areas, Zoysia for moderate shade tolerance, and Centipede for low-maintenance coverage. Our process includes thorough soil preparation with amendments, precise grading for drainage, and proper installation techniques that ensure good soil-to-sod contact. We source fresh-cut sod delivered on installation day and provide detailed care instructions for the critical establishment period. Sod installation is ideal for new construction, renovation projects, or replacing failing lawn areas.
Fire Pits & Fireplaces
Create a gathering space for year-round outdoor entertainment with custom fire features designed for your property. We install gas and wood-burning fire pits and outdoor fireplaces using quality materials that withstand South Carolina’s weather extremes. Our installations include proper base preparation, fire-rated materials, and configurations that account for seating areas and prevailing winds. Fire features extend your outdoor season and create a focal point for patios and gathering areas. We handle all aspects including gas line installation (when applicable) and integration with surrounding hardscape and landscape plantings.
Fence Installations
Define property boundaries and enhance security with professionally installed fencing that complements your landscape design. Through our trusted installation partners, we coordinate wood, vinyl, and aluminum fence projects that meet your functional needs and aesthetic preferences. Our installations include proper post setting in Florence’s variable soils, quality hardware, and gates that operate smoothly for years. We handle permit requirements and utility locates, ensuring compliance with local regulations. Fencing options range from decorative aluminum for front yards to privacy wood fencing for backyards and security fencing for commercial properties.
